People are saying that there are not much to see in Ayutthaya (an old Kingdom of Thailand before Bangkok) except for abundance of old temples that left behind .
Well thats not true and i'll tell you why.
Getting to Ayutthaya from Bangkok is not that hard. Various routes can be taken and one of the convenient way i suggest would be taking a Minivan (so called Rot Du in thai) after dropping down from LRT victory Monument (Anuwasari) in Bangkok.
Ayutthaya floating market is a good tourist attractions and according to my Thai friend, it is opened just a year ago. So the attraction place is still new and so not as commercial as Damnoen Saduak Floating market -which i heard is full of scammers.
It cost around 50baht per person if you ride from Bangkok and just tell the van driver that you are going to drop at Ayuttaya Floating market ( Ayutthaya Talad Nam which means water market ) The driver wll drop you just right infront of the market.
Since it is called "Floating Market", i would expect vendors selling from their boat. But here it did not work that way. It is not a typical floating market as the shops are on the side of canal instead of selling from the boat. The whole market is not really big. You can take a 5 minutes tour around the market through boats by paying just 20bahts.
You can feed the fish and other animals like goats and sheeps.
My friend Jeejin, tried the fish pedicure for only 100baht, Which you will not find the price is Malaysia.
On Sunday afternoon, there are free Thai dance and thai performance, which makes the visit worth the price.
(not sure it happens everyday or just weekends)
Just right opposite of the market, there is a small so called sheep lands and elephant village. The rides are overprice and there is nothing much inside.
If you have gone to the other floating market than i will not suggest this place as all the floating market are more or less the same.Try the old capitals around Ayutthaya, its interesting as well. However, its a nice experience visiting local floating market and experience nice thai food.
There is Song Teow taxi right outside of the market and if you wish to visit the old capitals, just bargain with them. It cost me just 30baht per person to get to the Ayutthaya Historical park from here.
